The Parks Committee met recently at both the Hubbell and White City Parks to review park conditions and look at improvements for the future. The Committee is preparing a list of improvements to be accomplished over the next five years.
At the July meeting of the Township Board, the board approved contracting with the Western U.P. Planning and Development Region (WUPPDR) for a new five year plan for the parks. The plan is necessary in order for the township to be eligible to apply for state and federal loans and grants for park improvements.
As the process moves forward, township residents will be polled for their input on desired park improvements.
One of the main problems at the White City Park is the disorderly conduct engaged in by late night partiers. The Township Board has requested that The Houghton County Sheriff Department dedicate a patrol, when possible, to this area.
The Hubbell Park has problems with juveniles engaging in destructive activity. Both the Michigan State Police and the Houghton County Sheriff Department have been asked to patrol the area of the park when passing through the Hubbell area.
If you live near either park and observe unlawful/unruly activity, please call 911 immediately and report the activity. Your help is greatly appreciated.
